Eventually by Martin Willitts Jr.

the dampened wood with the half melted snow
and the slow sure way icicles drops a piece of loss
softens in the dead mulching leaves
searching for any permanence

even a stone drifts in time
cool springs lose some chill
when heat is transferred from your touch
none of this eternal

loss can only last so long
then it parts as a silent bird
eventually there will be half the stars
rain can only cool the world off a little
